Summer is time for play in the sun and other fun stuff! Summer is also the time when it gets really hot, so it's really important to protect your pet from these elements. The following tips will help keep your dog safe throughout the summer season:
- Keep cool, fresh water in a readily available place for your pet.
- Avoid exercising your dog too hard on really hot days. Instead, take your dog on easy walks. If your dog has a thick natural coat, consider keeping it cool with a portable mister.
- Keep your dog off materials such as black pavement, metal grates and ramps – his paws may get burned by them
- Take your dog with you when you park your car - Never leave a pet in it since the temperature could get very hot in a very short time period. Even opening the window will not be enough.
- Make sure he or she has a cool place to rest when in the backyard. Use a doghouse, tent or other structure and have plenty of water available.
You can ensure you and your pet have an enjoyable summer together just by taking a few precautions.
